====== Orthomolekulare Medizin ======

Die Orthomolekulare Medizin, eine Form der Alternativmedizin, zielt darauf ab, die Gesundheit durch den Einsatz von Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln oder jedenfalls durch besonderes Augenmerk auf die durch Essen und Trinken aufgenommenen Nährstoffe zu erhalten. Das Konzept basiert auf der Idee, dass gesundheitliche Probleme oft aus Ernährungsfehlern und -mängeln resultieren können. Die Behandlung einer Krankheit besteht nach dieser Auffassung also in dem Versuch, „individuell biochemische Ungleichgewichte und Mangelerscheinungen“ durch gezielte Nährstoffe wie Vitamine, Mineralstoffe, Aminosäuren, Spurenelemente und Fettsäuren auszugleichen.

Der Begriff wurde in den 60er Jahren von Linus Pauling geprägt, um „die richtigen Moleküle in den richtigen Mengen“ zu bezeichnen (ortho bedeutet auf Griechisch „richtig, richtig“). Diejenigen, die diesem Ansatz folgen, glauben, dass jeder Behandlungsplan, der darauf abzielt, Ernährungsungleichgewichte und Mikroelementmängel zu korrigieren, strikt auf den biochemischen Bedürfnissen der einzelnen Person basieren muss.
